The Supreme Court has ordered the Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qasier to convene a meeting on Saturday (April 9) no later than 10 am to vote on a motion of no confidence in the Prime Minister.
"... if the motion of no confidence in the prime minister is successful, the council will appoint a new prime minister," the high court order said.
The Supreme Court also ruled that the Speaker could not adjourn the meeting and terminate the meeting if the motion of no confidence failed or if a new prime minister had been elected if the motion of no confidence had been passed.
The court ruled that no member could be barred from voting. It also stated that if the motion of no confidence failed the government would continue to do its thing. Earlier in the day, during a hearing on the suo-motu announcement, CJP Umar Ata Bandial said they would announce the verdict in connection with the decision of Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri to block a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Imran Khan after holding five consecutive sessions. days.

Meanwhile, when the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif was summoned to court, he said that if the court ruled that the Deputy Speaker's decision was "wrong", he should return it to Parliament.
Shahbaz also emphasized that if the Deputy Speaker's action was unconstitutional, the decisions taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan with the help of President Arif Alvi were also "unimportant".
"The motion of no confidence in Prime Minister Imran Khan will be automatically renewed once the high court rules against the Deputy Speaker," he said.
Calling the Deputy Speaker's decision "unconstitutional and illegal," the PML-N leader said voting would be held on April 3, and "constituencies could not be disbanded during the trial."
He stressed that several government partners and MNAs had joined the opposition, assuring the five-member bench that the united opposition party would defend the Constitution of Pakistan.
CJP Bandial said the court hearing is being conducted under Section 184 (3) as this is a public matter.
